Electrolux: GRO Tracker (2020)

GRO Tracker is a mobile app designed by the Electrolux Innovation Hub teams in Stockholm and Barcelona. It connects app users, their kitchens (Electrolux), and sustainable companies (Eg. supermarket chains). GRO Tracker offers 1. Easy input of food items, 2. Measuring impact 3. Progress reviews, and learning through an engaging interface and gamification features.

Role and Objective

I was hired as a product designer to work closely with the innovation lead. The objective was setting the core features and flows with the stakeholders and delivering a high fidelity prototype for the MVP app. My work included research, interviewing users and stakeholders, wireframing, prioritization of the features (card sorting, MoSCoW), testing, brand (visual language, identity, illustration), user interface, and prototype.

The GRO Ecosystem

GRO Care | Electrolux smart kitchen compartments
GRO Tracker | Mobile app for improving eating habits
GRO Create | Electrolux innovative kitchen tools

GRO builds on an open ecosystem platform that allows for integration and partnerships whilst enabling Electrolux to become a thought leader in the sustainable eating area.

1. Easily input your food items

GRO Tracker allows users to add receipts with a minimum of effort – by taking a photo or adding it from a gallery. They can also filter, sort, edit, delete, or add items manually.

2. Measure your impact

This simple mobile app strives to become a powerful tool for clear and engaging visualization of personal eating habits and the consequential planetary impact. It provides personal goal setting, guidance, and progress measurement over time.

3. Review Progress

GRO Tracker provides weekly tracking + monthly updates on user’s eating habits and personalized recommendations on actions they can take to improve their climate footprint.

Reflections on the process

The core team has conducted several comprehensive user interviews and generated reports for the stakeholders. The extracted data influenced the concluding decision which features will be a part of the MVP, and which are going to be postponed.

Despite that the gamification got very positive feedback from the majority of the tested users, this feature has been put on hold due to its complexity. Once ready, the first two games will offer fun and meaningful interactions based on users’ eating habits. The Awards system assumes including partners.
